Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, an artistic duo whose career path truly dazzles, are constantly exploring the notions of love and desire in works of visceral intensity that resonate deep within us. Soul Chain, created for tanzmainz and winner of Germany’s prestigious Der Faust award, is one of their most striking works. But don’t expect too much romance, Eyal warns! To the relentless techno beats of DJ Ori Lichtik, a chorus of 17 male and female dancers on demi-pointe “driven by an irrepressible, almost animal, but ultimately solitary desire to break out of themselves” vibrates and pulsates in perfect synergy. Meticulously assembled, this strange parade, with its minute and complex variations, culminates in a stunning crescendo, to the point of exhaustion. A tour de force.
