For 20 years, this Toronto-based company directed by Sandra Laronde has been the bold proponent of a living and contemporary art form steeped in the cultures and visions of Indigenous peoples from around the world. The streaming event More than Dance, We are a Movement features excerpts from the works Trace and Miigis and an interview with Sandra Laronde and the creative team.
In a fusion of Indigenous contemporary dance and athletics, Miigis explores living memory and the cycle of life. Then, inspired by Anishinaabe legends about the sky and the stars, Trace is about our ancestral origins and our future evolution.
