Quest for humanity

Each year, Danse Danse supports artists by making rehearsal spaces available, thereby allowing them to deepen several aspects of their creative work. Choreographer Virginie Brunelle, will be once again in residence at Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts.

During this residency the choreographer and her team will be working on a new creation for the Festival Danza Lugano 2022 in Italian-speaking Switzerland, inspired by Monte Verità. This famous mountain in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland was the breeding ground for an idealistic micro-society of artists, philosophers and scientists who initiated major social transformations in the early 20th century. The creation will explore feminism and utopia, two concepts that resonate today like cycles from which she will draw the foundations of her choreographic project. You will have the opportunity to see this new creation in one of the next seasons of Danse Danse.

In addition, Virginie Brunelle and her team will work on the adaptation of the stage work Les corps avalés for the camera. Springing from an extraordinary union between classical music, performed live by the Molinari Quartet, and contemporary dance, Les corps avalés is a moving human odyssey that reveals the creator’s sensitive intelligence and great musicality in all their luminous power. The film of this choreography, presented by Danse Danse in February 2020, will be shown in Germany in June 2021

After graduating, Virginie Brunelle created Les cuisses à l’écart du cœur, a choreography for seven dancers that earned the 2009 Bourse RIDEAU at the Vue sur la Relèv...
