Everybody dance with Sylvain Émard
Danse Danse’s project for International Dance Day 2020 (April 29) was aimed primarily at schools in the Commission scolaire de Montréal.
We asked choreographer Sylvain Émard to create a choreography for the students, which was filmed and made available to the participants. Teachers could either teach the sequence to their students themselves or welcome the choreographer for a classroom visit.
Allowing time for the students to learn the choreography, a public performance was scheduled for April 29, 2020 in the Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme at Place des Arts. The plan was for all the groups to present the choreography of the Tout le monde danse (Everybody Dance) project as a spontaneous performance.
Needless to say, in the context of the pandemic, Danse Danse and the Commission scolaire de Montréal had to adapt the project.
So we made the video tutorials available to the general public so that they could learn and perform the choreography, and we invited people to share their danced moment with us. Here is our International Dance Day video montage.
