Germaine Acogny

Choreographer and Teacher

One of the best known personalities of the contemporary African dance scene, especially in the field of teaching and development.

Germaine Acogny has created her very own technique of Modern African Dance. Her solos are performed all over the world.

One of the best known personalities of the contemporary African dance scene, especially in the field of teaching and development. Between 1977 and 1982, Ms Acogny was artistic director of the emblematic MUDRA AFRIQUE School of the Performing Arts created by Maurice Bejart and the Senegalese president and poet Leopold Sedar Senghor in Dakar. Ever since, she dances, choreographs and teaches all over the world.

Germaine Acogny has created her very own technique of Modern African Dance. Her solos are performed all over the world.

In 1996, she decided to put all her energy and experience at the disposal of young African dancers and African choreographers and, with her husband, Helmut Vogt, created Ecole des Sables, which was officially inaugurated in 2004.

In 2015 she decided to hand over the Artistic Direction of the Center to her son Patrick Acogny, dancer-choreographer and teacher.
