Dear audience,
It is with great joy that we open 2026 with a highlight of our season: the long-awaited arrival of Compagnie Hervé Koubi. For Danse Danse audiences, this will be a first encounter with a choreographer whose language is both distinctive and deeply human. Hervé Koubi, a French choreographer of Algerian descent, has crafted a unique artistic world shaped by his Mediterranean roots and an unconventional path. His work blends physical intensity, vital energy, and an aesthetic at the crossroads of hip-hop, contemporary dance, and movement arts. His dance is physical, intense, and striking.
By bringing together artists from diverse disciplines and, more recently, an increasing number of female performers into his company, he continuously enriches his choreographic signature. Sol Invictus unfolds as a true fresco—vibrant, human, and radiant. We’re thrilled to introduce this artist and his company to our audience.
We’re thrilled to introduce you to this artist and their company. On behalf of the entire team, I’d like to wish you a wonderful 2026.
Enjoy the show!
Pierre Des Marais — Artistic and Executive Director of Danse Danse.

Territorial Acknowledgement
Danse Danse acknowledges that we are gathered on the traditional and unceded territory of the Kanien’keha:ka Nation. We honour the continued presence of Indigenous peoples on the Tiohtiá:ke (Montreal) territory, which has long served as a meeting place for exchanges between nations. With respect for the links to the past, present and future, we thank the Indigenous peoples for reminding us of the importance of living in harmony with ourselves, with each other and with nature, and we are grateful for the opportunity to present works of living art at Tiohtiá:ke.
Bonjour Montréal!
We are delighted to present Sol Invictus in Montreal, and for the first time in Canada. Performing this piece in the middle of winter in the Nordic countries is a particularly meaningful moment for me.
Sol Invictus is my declaration of love for dance, for all the dances that have shaped my language and my choreographic writing.
With Sol Invictus, I would also like to rediscover childhood. Oh yes, to dance like a child.
With Sol Invictus and almost as many nationalities as there are dancers on stage, I would like us to believe once again that dance has this incredible power to simply bring people together.
To dance, to life, to love!
Hervé
Trained at prestigious artistic institutions, Hervé Koubi worked with some of the biggest names in dance before founding his own company in 2000.
