Quest for meaning

Hailed as an outstanding dancer, Anne Plamondon has also made her mark as a choreographer. Her new work focuses on the body as a whole, and gives voice to some very current concerns. Discover it for yourself!

In a brilliant career that has taken her around the globe, Anne Plamondon has danced for some of the greatest names in the international dance community. After working with Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite and sharing the adventure of RUBBERBAND, where she was the figurehead and co-artistic director for 10 years, she now devotes herself to various large-scale choreographic projects while also performing occasionally. Incorporating her experience as a dancer into her choreographic vision, she recently created a piece for Alberta Ballet and several sections of VANISHING MÉLODIES for Ballets Jazz Montréal. Performed by a lively and energetic septet and set to the hypnotic music of Olivier Fairfield, this new creation conveys the urgent call to action that characterizes our time, and speaks to the vital power of togetherness for a community in search of meaning. Fresh and invigorating.

Oeuvre

MYOKINE
Anne Plamondon

Whether we are powerless witnesses, collateral victims, or social inheritors of a reality that sometimes seems insurmountable, MYOKINE expresses the urgency to act that characterizes our times.

In Anne Plamondon's first group work for her company, the choreographer turns to the body as a refuge of infinite intelligence, truth and beauty. A veritable ode to hope, this work transports its performers into a multi-influenced language nourished by the vital power of togetherness for a community in search of meaning. A unifying project, the dancers expose, confront, and abandon themselves to the musical universe of Ourielle Auvé and Olivier Fairfield.

What are myokines?

Myokines are molecules secreted by the muscles when the body is in motion, often called "hope molecules" for the feeling of well-being and optimism they provide. It was in seeking to understand how the body, confronted with the multiplication of the complex and troubling issues of our time, reacts to this often overwhelming reality that Anne Plamondonseized upon the myokine formation process. For her, it embodied dance's essential function of releasing tension, emotions and anxiety, and giving meaning to the imperfections that lend existence both strength and vulnerability.

A Word form Danse Danse

Good evening to all,

This is a first for our audience! This is the first time we've had the opportunity to present this talented artist at Danse Danse. We're proud to welcome Anne Plamondon, a fascinating voice from our own artistic community. After more than 20 years as a performer on international stages, she made her debut as a choreographer in 2012. We've been following her for a long time, admiring her evolution, and we're delighted to encourage her as she charts her own creative path.

With a rich and varied background, Anne Plamondon has developed a singular style, shaped by her deep understanding of the human body, uniting emotion and reflection. Her collaborations with Alberta Ballet and Ballets Jazz Montréal have enabled her to create large-scale works, continuing to bring a different, innovative perspective to the Canadian choreographic scene.

In her latest work, MYOKINE, Anne Plamondon explores the duality of wanting to live a fulfilled life in a world where, at times, everything seems to be falling apart. A true ode to hope and the vital force of the body, performed by 7 remarkable performers who take to the stage with precision and virtuosity.

Welcome, Anne Plamondon!

Enjoy the show, dear audience!

Territorial acknowledgement

Danse Danse acknowledges that we are gathered on the traditional and unceded territory of the Kanien’keha:ka Nation. We honour the continued presence of Indigenous peoples on the Tiohtiá:ke (Montreal) territory, which has long served as a meeting place for exchanges between nations. With respect for the links to the past, present and future, we thank the Indigenous peoples for reminding us of the importance of living in harmony with ourselves, with each other and with nature, and we are grateful for the opportunity to present works of living art at Tiohtiá:ke.

A Word From the Choreographer

The body is movement. It can scream, cry, whisper. It can lead or let go.

The body can resist or facilitate action. It can accomplish a feat. Or disappoint.

The body communicates and feels. It sweats and excels. Sometimes. When it contracts, it produces a molecule called the hope molecule: Myokine.

It is this hope that I wanted to shine a light on.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that"
- Martin Luther King
