A leading figure of krump in Canada, 7Starr dedicates his artistic practice to the affirmation, transmission, and evolution of this culture.
A Canadian krump pioneer and multidisciplinary artist from Laval, Vladimir “7Starr” Laurore has played a central role in the development and recognition of krump in Quebec and Canada. In 2006, he co-founded Bzerk Squad, the first krump crew in Canada, contributing to the establishment and structuring of the form across the country.
Deeply committed to education and outreach, he actively works to amplify krump within his community. He serves as President of the Montreal Krump Alliance (MKA) and is the founder of Gutta Zone Fest, the largest krump festival in Canada.
His work has been recognized with numerous distinctions, including the Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Gloria Mitchell-Aleong Award presented by Black Theatre Workshop, the Prix Coup de cœur au Gala Dunamis, and the Discovery Award from the Prix de la danse de Montréal—honouring the scope and impact of his artistic commitment.
Alongside his dance career, 7Starr has also developed a music practice. In 2020, he released his first solo album, Diff Diff. His work has garnered notable media attention, with interviews featured on CTV News, CKUT, and Télé-Québec.
Constantly in motion, the artist continues to explore krump and push its boundaries, both artistically and geographically.
