Christos Papadopoulos

Born in 1982 in a small village in the Peloponnese, Greece, Christos Papadopoulos studied dance and choreography at SNDO (School for New Dance Development) in Amsterdam, theatre at the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece, and political science at Panteion University in Athens. After working as a performer and assistant choreographer with theatre directors, he quickly developed a distinctive artistic voice, shaped by close observation of movement and an ongoing reflection on how groups organize and function. 

He gained early recognition with his first creations, Elvedon (2015) and Opus (2016), which were rapidly acclaimed by critics and noticed on the European scene, notably through their selection by the Aerowaves network. In 2018, he created Ion, a commission from Onassis Stegi co-produced by the Théâtre de la Ville de Paris and Le Lieu Unique in Nantes, confirming the international recognition of his work. With Larsen C (2021), presented in more than 25 venues and festivals across Europe, Christos Papadopoulos further affirmed a choreographic writing that is increasingly precise, collective, and immersive. 

In 2023, he extended this research through collaborations with major international companies and institutions. He created Mellowing for Dance On and Mycelium for the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon and the Biennale de la Danse de Lyon, while also broadening his artistic practice to include music and performance. This trajectory reaches a new milestone with My Fierce Ignorant Step (2025), a major work that opens a new chapter in his career and is currently touring internationally. 

In February 2025, Christos Papadopoulos was awarded the prestigious Rose International Dance Award by Sadler’s Wells in London, recognizing the strong coherence of his artistic approach and the growing influence of his work on the contemporary choreographic scene.
