Charles “Broken” Brecard

At the crossroads of somatic practices, choreographic creation, and poetry, Charles Brecard develops a body of work rooted in movement and commitment.

Originally from New Caledonia / Kanaky and part of the Vietnamese diaspora, Charles Brecard is a dance artist, sports massage therapist, artistic curator, and poet. A graduate of École de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal (EDCM), he is based between Montréal / Tio’tia:ke and Paris.

His approach, Fluidify, has evolved through the dances, somatic practices, and bodies of knowledge that have shaped his journey. It informs both his creative work and his teaching, which he shares in academic, professional, and cultural mediation contexts across Canada, Western Europe, Iceland, Japan, and New Caledonia.

His choreographic works, marked by a virtuosic gestural signature, an epic and atemporal aesthetic, and a melancholic poetic sensibility infused with clear-eyed activism, have been presented and awarded in Quebec (Best Performance 2021, Outdoor Performance 2023), New Brunswick, Greece, the United Kingdom, the Basque Country, Germany (Best Choreography 2023 and residencies), Brazil, Japan, and Poland.

He has notably received choreographic commissions for the Wroclaw Opera Ballet, André Pappathomas, and Bradyworks, as well as for several professional training programs, including EDCM, École de danse de Québec, The School of Dance (Ottawa), and the Dance Arts Faculty Rome. Since 2023, his latest solo, Il pleut, il plaint, il rage, has been touring widely in festivals and venues internationally.

With SKLTR*, krump steps out of the streets and bursts onto the stage, merging two singular voices shaped by radically different paths. The result is a striking, cathartic aesthetic collision.
