Anne Plamondon

Choreographer

Anne Plamondon is a choreographer, performer, teacher and curator. After more than 20 years of performing on international stages, she made her debut as a choreographer with her first solo Les mêmes yeux que toi (2012).

In the course of an illustrious career that has taken her to the four corners of the globe, Anne Plamondon has had the opportunity to dance for some of the world's most eminent choreographers. Anne Plamondon is currently devoting herself to a number of major choreographic projects, while keeping one foot on stage.

In 2018, she founded Anne Plamondon Productions in order to carry out her own creative projects and generate new artistic partnerships. Focusing on subjects that resonate deeply with her, her work leaves a lasting impression, both in their virtuosity and in their sensitive authenticity.

Since then, she has multiplied her collaborations with important institutions such as the Fall for Dance North Festival in Toronto, where she created the duet Counter Cantor (2018) with renowned choreographer Emma Portner, as well as Fiddle Embrace (2018), a piece for eighteen students from the Ryerson School of Dance. She has also created works for Alberta Ballet and Arts Umbrella Dance in Vancouver, and for Ballets Jazz Montréal with Vanishing Melodies (2021), a large-scale creation set to the music of Patrick Watson

Anne Plamondon trained at the National Ballet School of Canada and the Banff Centre for the Arts before graduating from the École Supérieure de Ballet du Québec in 1994. She immediately joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and performed several works from the classical repertoire, including those by George Balanchine and Fernand Nault. She continued her career with the Nederlands Dans Theater 2 and the Gulbenkian Ballet, performing works by Jiří Kylián, Hans Van Manen, Johan Inger, Gideon Obarzanek, Angelin Preljocaj, Itzik Galili. Rui Horta, and Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon.

From 2007 to 2015, she collaborated with Crystal Pite and her company Kidd Pivot on Lost Action, Fault, The You Show, and the Olivier Award-winning duet A Picture of You Falling in 2015.

From 2002 to 2015, Anne Plamondon was a performer and then co-artistic director of RUBBERBAND, where she creates with Victor Quijada the memorable duet AV/INPUT/OUTPUT as well as a dozen works for the stage.

Taking to heart the issues of passing on her work to the next generation of dancers, she is involved as a teacher in several training institutions, including l'École Supérieure de Ballet du Québec, l'École de Danse de Québec, l'École de Danse Contemporine de Montréal and Arts Umbrella Dance (B.C.), and has been acting as the curator of dance at the Domaine Forget de Charlevoix since 2018.
