The dancers’ organic gestures carve the space. Against the backdrop of an unsettled time, this fragile humanity progresses to the rhythm of group logic. Quijada reframes his highly distinctive style, a fusion of the spontaneous athleticism of hip hop and the precision of ballet and contemporary dance. Disruptions rumble and build, slowly, imperceptibly, until suddenly everything shifts. While Quotient Empirique (2013) looked back on a decade of RUBBERBAND’s artistic journey, Vraiment doucement explores the break points that mark both an ending and a new beginning. Driven by an irrepressible sense of urgency, the dancers embody rebellion. The culmination of a 15 year creative process, Vraiment doucement looks resolutely to the future. In this work, Quijada and his company are at the height of their art.
