Ballet national du Canada

With a roster of 72 dancers and its very own orchestra, The National Ballet of Canada is the only Canadian ballet company to present a full range of traditional full-length classics and contemporary works. Founded in Toronto in 1951 by Celia Franca, the National Ballet’s repertoire includes works by the world’s most celebrated 20th and 21st century masters, Sir Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, John Cranko, Rudolf Nureyev, James Kudelka and Jiří Kylián. Former Prima Ballerina Karen Kain was appointed Artistic Director in 2005 and has rejuvenated the company, commissioning new works from exciting Canadian choreographers such as Crystal Pite and José Navas. The company has performed for over 10 million people and has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
